Everyone is welcome to join us for a drink and snack after the ride at the Red Pepper Café, The Investment Centre, Waterside Drive, Wigan, WN3 5BA.  

Starting at 9:30am from Trencherfield Mill, Heritage Way, Woods Street, Wigan WN3 4AT

Non-members are very welcome to come along for a ride or two before joining, all we ask is that you fill out one of our membership forms before doing so and bring it along with you as well as your own bike & helmet to use on the ride.

No need to let us know if you’re coming along, just turn up on the day!

16th April – Allan R: 24 mile 700ft. Bryn, Ashton, Haydock, Newton, Burtonwood, Vulcan Village, Newton, Golborne, Bamfurlong & towpath back to Trencherfield.

9th April – Ride Cancelled

2nd April – Denis M: 23 mile Chorley, Astley park, Euxton, Charnock Richard, Mossy Lea Road, Red Pepper Lane and back via Wigan lane.

26th March – Tony G: 20 Miles, 650Ft. Canal to Ince, Amberswood, Atherton Road, Borsdane Ave, Sandy Lane, Jacks Lane, Aspull, Borsdane Wood to Hindley, Hindley Golf Course, Top Lock Canal to Haigh, Wigan Lane, Beech Hill Ave to Canal, Back to Trencherfield.

19th March – Allan F: 19 mile undulating route with mixed surfaces, the main climb being Gathurst Brew on the way back, not suitable for road bikes. Cycleway to the Saddle Junction, past the DW Stadium and along the canal to Crooke followed by the pads to Shevington, through Elnup Wood into Standish, Mineral Line cycleway to Old Pepper Lane. Into Wrightington and Tunley Lane before we begin our return by via Robin Hood Lane and Appley Lane North into Appley Bridge, Skull House Lane into Shevington, dropping down to Gathurst then up Gathurst Brew and into Kitt Green. Marsh Green estate, cut through Robin Park and cycleway back to Trencherfield.

5th March – Allan F: 22 mile and 1000ft. Westwood Way, Goose Green, Leopold Street, Banana Bridge to  Orrell, Upholland, Roby Mill, Lees Lane, Parbold village, Hilldale, Stony Lane, High Moor, Appley Bridge, canal towpath, DW Stadium and Wallgate cycleway back to Trencherfield.

27th February – Tony G: 22 miles 1000ft assent. Haigh Woodland Park up to the Balcarres Arms, Little Scotland, down Blundell Lane then over the River Douglas to Adlington, Duxbury. Down Burgh Hall Rd to the Yarrow Valley Country Park. Cop pull Moor Lane to the A49 then down through Standish to Wigan. 

20th February – Jim T: 22-mile route, road ride, 709ft. A49 to
Standish, along Pepper Lane into Wrightington.  Mossy Lea Road leads to
Church Lane and Halfpenny Lane. Salt Pit Lane and Back Lane en-route to
Bispham Green and on towards Parbold. Appley Bridge then on road to Shevington,
Standish Lower Ground and Woodhouse Lane back to Trencherfield Mill.

13th February – Pete H: Mix of road and off road, 23 miles with a gain of 597 ft. Canal to Bamfurlong , railway to Viridor Wood, Golborne, Riding Lane, Edge Green Rd. Byrom Wood and to the canal via Slag Ln. Guided busway to enter Lilford Park, then Jubilee Park and the cycle way to West Leigh Lane, Hindley to join the NCR55 to the Canal and back to our start point.

7th February – 23 mile road ride

30th January – Jim T: 22 mile and 900ft. Wigan Lane, Hall lane, Haigh Hall, Little Scotland, Horwich, Regent Park GC, Lostock, Chew Moor, Westhoughton, Daisy Hill, Hindley Green, Amberswood & back.

23rd January – Jim T: 23mile 674ft. A49 to Standish, Coppull, Mill Lane (Charnock Richard), Chisnall Lane and Withington Lane, Heskin. B5250 , Town Lane, Bentley Lane, Andertons Mill, Ridley Lane, Back Lane and Maltkiln Lane to get into Parbold village, Return to Trencherfield Mill via Appley Bridge, Shevington, Crooke and Martland Mill.

16th January – Ride Cancelled due to Snow

9th January Tony G: 22 mile. Towpath to Martland Mill, Crooke Village, pads to Shevington, Appley Bridge, Lees Lane, Parbold, Newburgh, Hoscar, Grimshaw Green, Lancaster Lane back to Parbold & towpath back to base.

19th December Jim T: 20 mile and 1000ft. Town centre up to Leyland Mill Lane, Pendlebury Lane track to Red Rock and disused rail line towards Aberdeen. The Common into Adlington, bridleway across Chorley golf course, across the River Yarrow, Back Lane, Knowsley Lane, Parsons Bullough Road, bridleway past Yarrow Reservoir and cobbled track into Rivington village, tracks alongside Lower Rivington Reservoir, past Liverpool Castle into Horwich and back to Wigan via Lostock & Aspull.

12th November Jim T: 20 mile and 700ft. Towpath to Martland Mill, Standish Lower Ground and Standish Wood Lane, Boars Head. Red Rock Lane, track to Aberdeen, Little Scotland, Haigh and Aspull, Borsdane Wood, Amberswood, Bamfurlong, Landgate Lane and down the Devil’s Backbone to the canal towpath back to Trencherfield.

5th Novenber Jim T: 19 mile and 400ft. Road into Hindley and through to Hindley Green and Daisy Hill, Howe Bridge, Old Hall Mill Lane, Lilford, Guided Busway back into Leigh, Pennington Flash and towpath back to Trencherfield Mill.

21st November Jim T: 22 mile and 700ft. Wallgate cycle track, DW Stadium, Orrell Post, Tracks Lane Billinge, Garswood, Bryn, Stubshaw, Platt Bridge, Bickershaw, Hindley Green, Hindley town centre, Amberswood, Lower Ince and towpath back to Trencherfield.

14th November Jim T: 22 mile and 750ft. Miry Lane, Gidlow, Standish, Wrightington, Smithy Brow, Andertons Mill, Bispham Green, Parbold, Lees Lane, Appley Bridge, towpath to Crooke and back to Wigan via Woodhouse Lane.

7th November Jim T: 21 mile and 1100ft. Westwood Way, Little Lane, Leopold Street, Redwood Park, Banana Bridge, Orrell, Alma Hill, Ashurst Beacon, Dungeon Lane, Lees Lane, Appley Bridge, Shevington, Elnup Woods, Rectory Lane, Chorley Road, Wigan Cemetery & back to via Gidlow Lane.

31st October Jim T: 23 mile and 950ft. Amberswood, Hindley, Blackberry Drive, Swan Lane, Daisy Hill, Chew Moor, Lostock, Regent Golf Course, Middlebrook, Horwich. Blackrod, Littel Scotland, Haigh Hall, Swinley Lane and back to base.

24th October Jim T: 22 mile and 900ft. Standish, Pepper, Tunley Lane, Stoney Lane, Mawdesley, Smithy Brow, Pepper Lane, Arbour Lane, Shevington, Crooke, Standish Lower Ground, Martland Mill.  Woodhouse Lane, Prescott Street and Miry Lane back to Trencherfield.

17th October Jim T: 19 mile and 700ft. Parsons, Worsley Estate, Three Sisters, Viridor, Amberswood, Hindley GC, Top Lock, Haigh Hall, Pendlebury Lane, Leyland Mill Lane and back via Spencer Road etc.

10th October: Jim T: 23 mile and 1400ft. Haigh Hall, Little Scotland, Rivington, Sheep House, Yarrow Reservoir, Anglezarke Reservoir, Nickleton Brow, Babylon Lane, Chorley Road, Rawlinson Lane, Duxbury, Standish, A49, Gidlow Lane and back to TM.

3rd October – Cancelled due to weather

26th September Jim T: 22 and 1250ft. Haigh Hall, Aspull and along Bolton Road to Coopers, Horwich, Rivington, Liverpool Castle, Dark Lane, Little Scotland, Red Rock, Chorley Road, Wigan Cemetery, Gidlow Lane, Prescott Street and Miry Lane.

5th September Allan F: 20 mile and 600ft. Towpath to Hawkley Woods, Devils backbone, Landgate Lane, North Ashton, tracks to Carr Mill, Sankey Valley, Newton, crossing the East Lancs and Racecourse, Viridor woods, Lily Lane and back via canal towpath.

29th August Jim T: 22 mile and 900ft. Wigan Lane into Standish, Mineral Line, Old Pepper Lane, Mossy Lea Road, Church Lane, Smithy Brow, Bispham Green, Grimshaw Green, Parbold, Lees Lane, Appley Bridge, Shevington, Crooke, Martland Mill and back to Trencherfield.

22nd August Jim T: 16 mile and 600ft Crooke Pads, Elnup Woods, Standish Wood Lane, Haigh Hall, Top Lock, Hindley Golf Course, Amberswood and back to Trencherfield.

15th August Jim T: 20 mile and 800ft.  Mesnes Park, Hall Lane, Haigh Hall, Aspull, Blackrod, Middlebrook. Wingates, Westhouhoughton, Hindley Green, Park Road, Amberswood and back to Trencherfield via Westwood Way.

8th August Jim T: Road ride 21 miles 882 feet. Trencherfield Mill onto the towpath, Top Lock, Withington Lane, Hindley Golf Course, Ladies Lane, Aspull, Haigh and Red Rock down to Chorley Road, Jolly Tar Lane, Coppull Moor Lane, Preston Road, Standish, Pepper Lane, Mossy Lea Road, A5209 at Shevington Moor, Back Lane, Appley Bridge, Shevington,  Gathurst Lane, canal towpath back to Trencherfield Mill.

1st August Jim T: 21 mile and 983ft. Standish, Coppull Moor Lane, Yarrow Valley Park, Bolton Road Yarrow Gate and Yarrow Road into Cowling Brow, Long Lane, Babylon Lane, Adlington, canal towpath to Red Rock, Wigan Cemetery, Gidlow Lane and back to Trencherfield.

25th July Paul B: 20 mile and 800ft. Canal towpath to Hawkley Woods, Marus Bridge, Winstanley Estate, Windy Arbor, Longshaw, Billinge Lump, Garswood, North Ashton, Skitters Wood, Ashton Heath, Stubshaw, Riding Lane, Bamfurlong and Canal towpath back to Trencherfield.

18th July Jim T: 20 mile and 900ft. Amberswood, Ladies Lane, Wingates, Horwich, Rivington, Littel Scotland, Haigh Hall & back to Trencherfield.

11th July Tony G: 19 mile and 600ft. Canal to Manchester Rd, Belle Green Lane, Highfield Rd to Hindley Station. Hall Lane across into Borsdane Wood, Gerrard Arms and up Dicconson to Code Lane then via Dodds and Jacks Lanes to the A 58. Wearish Lane, Hindley Green, Bickershaw, Kingsdown Flash, Crankwood, Dover Lock and towpath back to Trencherfield.

4th July Jim T: 18 mile and 900ft. Town Centre, Track along the River Douglas into Whelley, Balcarres, Little Scotland, Red Rock, Bradley Lane into Standish, Mineral Line, Standish Wood Lane, Giants Hall Crooke Village and back via Martland Mill & the DW.

27th June Allan F: 21 mile 1150ft. Cherry Gardens, Haigh Woodland Park to Aspull, Blackrod, Liverpool Castle, Rivington Hall Barn, Sheep House Lane, Horrobin Lane, Babylon Lane, Adlington over the common and across the river Douglas, Golf Course to Red Rock, Boars Head, Gidlow Cemetery, Gidlow Lane, Prescott Street and back to Trencherfield.

13th June Paul B: 20 mile and 800ft. Pool St and Canal to Hawkley Woods, Colby Road to the Ben Johnson, through Winstanley estate to Windy Arbour, Billinge and Beacon Road up to the Lump (almost). Billinge Lower End, Carr Mill, Garswood, Three Sisters, Backbone and back to Trencherfield

6th June Tony G: 22 mile and 1000ft. Wigan Park, Swinley, Balcarres, Toddington Lane, Little Scotland, Blundell’s Lane, ford over the River Douglas and on to Adlington. Duxbury via Rawlinson Lane, Yarrow Valley Country Park, Coppull Hall and Coppull Moor Lanes, Preston Road to Standish and back down the 49 to Trencherfield

30th May John M: 21 mile. Mesnes Park, Whitley Crescent and into Wigan Cemetery.  Passing though the cemetery we join the A49 to Standish & the Mineral Line, Mossy Lee Road, Church Lane, Smithy Brow and Bentley Lane into Parbold. The Common, Mill Lane, Higher Lane, Lees Lane, Appley Lane South, Miles Lane, Shevington village, ‘Crooke Pads’ to Crooke village, track through the wooded area to get to Fourmarts Road and back to Trencherfield.

23rd May JIm T: 18 mile and 850ft.  Amberswood, Hall Lane, Golf Course, Haigh, Pendlebury Lane, Red Rock, Fairhurst Lane, Standish, Elnup Woods, Crooke Pads, track to Martland, DW and back to base.

16th May Jim T: 21 mile and 900ft. Cherry Gardens, Leyland Mill Lane, Pendlebury Lane, Red Rock, canal to Adlington, Babylon Lane, Long Lane to Limbrick and Cowling. Canal again to Aberdeen, Blundell Lane and Little Scotland, Toddington Lane into Haigh, bridleway down past St David’s church, before re-joining the canal back to Trencherfield.

9th May Paul B: 20 mile and 900ft. Parsons Meadow, Leopold, Hall Lane, Water Park, Up and over the lump, Carr Mill, Garswood, Three Sisters and back to Trencherfield via the Backbone, Hawkley Woods and the canal towpath.

2nd May Paul B: 20 mile and approx 1000ft. Parsons Meadow, Alexandra Park, Banana Bridge, Tontine, Pimbo, Crawford, Rainford Linear Park, Billinge, Over the Lump, Windy Harbour and back to Wigan.
