Thursday 4th August
Phil B will be leading:
Our Thursday ride this week will be a 24 miles road route with a little less than 1000 feet of climbing. We will leave Trencherfield and enter the cycleway down Wallgate taking us to Frith Street where we will join the road taking us past the DW Stadium onto Challenge Way. We pass through Kitt Green then up to Orrell Post before continuing through Upholland and around the monument to Hall Green. We then join Chequer Lane and pass through Pimbo then on to Crawford. After passing through Crawford we join News Lane taking us into Rainford and on towards Rainford Bypass. We don’t enter the bypass at this point but cut back to pass through the centre of Rainford village. Shortly after the village centre we will follow Church Road to join the cycleway on Rainford Bypass taking us up towards the East Lancs Road. We cut off the cycleway onto Crank Road and pass Fairfield Hospital on our way to Crank before climbing up to Billinge. Our climbing ends at Windy Arbour when we join Pemberton Road and the long downhill into Wigan. We then join the cycle lanes at the Saddle Junction to return to Trencherfield. This ride is suitable for any bike but a road bike, hybrid or ebike would be more suitable than a mountain bike. Everyone is welcome to join us at The Brick café for a drink and chat after the ride.
Starting at 9:30am from Trencherfield Mill, Heritage Way, Woods Street, Wigan WN3 4AT
