Thursday 11th April

Ride Leader – Phil B

This is a 21 mile mix of road and off-road cycling with less than 500 feet of ascent and no steep climbs.  We will pass down Swan Meadow Road and join the canal towpath at Poolstock.  We then follow the towpath to the bridge at Bamfurlong then take to the road through Platt Bridge before entering the Lee Lane council estate at Abram.  We follow the track around the edge of Kingsdown Flash taking us to Park Lane.  We then rejoin the road for a short while then follow a track through to Crankwood.  We emerge on Crankwood Road and continue onto Plank Lane.  We cross Westleigh mainly using back streets before emerging onto Westleigh Lane.  We then continue on road through to Daisy Hill where we cycle along back roads through to Hindley Green.  After a short distance on  Atherton Road we take a back road and track through to Leyland Park in Hindley.  We then follow our regular back street route through Blackberry Drive to Liverpool Road then onto Amberswood Nature Reserve.  We’re then off road for the final few miles as we circle the reserve before entering the Whelley Loop Line cycle route and climbing up to join the canal towpath at New Springs.  It’s then a steady downhill back to our start point at Trencherfield Mill. This route is not suitable for a road bike.

Hi Terry electric bike should be fine, but just bear in mind that a lot of the off-road trails we use have access barriers (kissing gate type affair)on them. Might be a little more awkward to negotiate with a heavier bike. Only one way to find out though!

Hi to all present today Thursday 2nd August. Thank you for welcoming me today. I hope I didn’t hold you back too much. It was great to see the route and hope I can gain better fitness to join you again sometime in the future. Meanwhile I shall try the Lifestyle group, thanking you for the introduction to Keith. Cheers and safe riding. Jack

Does anyone know if the Thursday ride is likely to be on this week due to weather ?
