Tuesday 28th March
Jim T will be leading:
Today’s ride is 19 miles on a mixture of road and off-road, so a hybrid, mtb or ebike would be suitable.
It has a height gain of 825 feet with a maximum height of 526 feet.
We head out over Amberwood, up the Whelley Loop Line and then into Hindley. We use Platt Lane to get into Ladies Lane, which due to the road closure at Hindley Station should allow a pretty much traffic-reduced ride up to Bolton Road – we may need to walk our bikes across the temporary walkway at the railway bridge.
Once we get to Bolton Road we turn left to make our way up to the Balcarres Arms in Haigh, where we turn left down Copperas Lane and School Lane towards Red Rock. We turn left down Pendlebury Lane before turning right to use the quiet track leading to Red Rock Lane, which we use to drop down to Chorley Road. It’s a right turn and along Chorley Road before a left turn into Platt Lane, along Bradley Lane and up to Preston Road (A49). We turn right and then a quick left into Primrose Lane to access the Mineral Line as we make our way to Old Pepper Lane. Almond Brooke Road and Arbour Lane take us towards Shevington for a long downhill to the canal bridge at Gathurst. We join the canal for a short distance before we leave the towpath at Crooke to use the tracks taking us to Challenge Way, Stadium Way and Firth Street. The shared cycleway along Wallgate takes us back to Trencherfield Mill.
Everyone is welcome to join us for a drink and snack after the ride at the Red Pepper Café, The Investment Centre, Waterside Drive, Wigan, WN3 5BA.
Starting at 09:30am from Trencherfield Mill, Heritage Way, Woods Street, Wigan WN3 4AT
Non members are very welcome to come along for a ride or two before joining, all we ask is that you fill out one of our membership forms before doing so and bring it along with you as well as your own bike & helmet to use on the ride. No need to let us know if you’re coming along, just turn up on the day!
Membership forms are available for you to download from the website (About Us Page)
