21st October

Leading : Phil B Usual start time of 9:30am from Trencherfield

This route is 22 miles with a mix of road and off-road cycling and a little under 700 feet of ascent. The climbing is at the beginning of the ride as we head up to Haigh. We follow our regular route across the town centre via Wallgate and King Street West and make our way through Mesnes Park and Mesnes Road to the Cherry Gardens. We then enter Hall Lane before joining the trail up towards Haigh Hall. We leave the trail at New Road and continue to the Balcarrres Arms at Haigh. This is the high point of the ride. We continue on road down through the Finger Post at Aspull and follow Bolton Road as we descend to join the trail through Borsdane Wood. We emerge from the wood and follow estate roads through Hindley and Hindley Green until we reach Leyland Park. We’re back on trails across to Bickershaw and the former colliery site to Fir Tree Flash. We then pass along tracks around the flash and through to Plank Lane. We return to road passing through Crankwood before joining the trail to Dover Lock and the canal towpath. We leave the towpath at Bamfurlong and cycle through the Millers Lane estate before entering Amberswood Nature Reserve. We cross the reserve into Lower Ince and pass through the Westwood estate on our way back to our start point.

Everyone is welcome to join us for a drink and a chat at the Red Pepper café after the ride.

Non-members are very welcome to come along for a ride or two before joining, all we ask is that you fill out one of our membership forms before doing so and bring it along with you as well as your own bike & helmet to use on the ride.
