28th April
Leading: Tony G
The ride is about 21 miles and climbs about 600 ft. It isn’t suitable for a road bike. Leaving Trencherfield we climb up the canal towards New Springs, turning right on to an off-road path opposite Kirkless Hall, coming out in Belle Green Lane. We ride down Hemfield Road emerging at Hindley train station then turn left down Ladies Lane to Danes Ave via France St. We ride up the length of Borsdane Wood to the Gerrard Arms then up Dicconson Lane before descending to Castle hill via Dodds Lane/Jacks Lane. The bridge here is still closed for safety reasons but a well trodden path is still being used for which we will have to dismount and push our bikes over. from there its via farm tracks to Hindley Cemetery.
At Castle Hill Road we ride down Sandy Lane and via Coupland Rd to Hindley Green then down to Bickershaw Country Park and around Fir Tree Flash emerging on Plank Lane. From there its down Crankwood to the Canal at Dover Lock and then back down the canal to Trencherfield
