Tuesday’s ride is a 20-mile route, largely off-road, so a mtb, hybrid or e-bike probably the best option.
It has an elevation gain of 793ft with a maximum height of 528ft.
From Trencherfield Mill, it is along the canal towpath to Crooke, across the ‘Crooke Pads’ into Shevington and onto Elnup Woods. From here it’s a climb up to Standish Wood Lane and then across the A49 into Grove Lane. At the bottom of Grove Lane, Fairhurst Lane gives us access to Chorley Road and then up Red Rock Lane to join the Adlington mineral line, hopefully, after the dry spell, it is a bit less waterlogged than normal.
Aberdeen district allows us access to Blundell Lane, into Little Scotland (see the connection? Aberdeen & Little Scotland) and then right at the Goose and Gander towards Haigh. Its down the mineral line at the side of St David’s Church to the canal, along the towpath to TopLock, before continuing down Withington Lane to pass alongside Hindley Hall Golf Course. We cross Hall Lane to make our way into Borsdane Wood, after which it is a run through the centre of Hindley to Amberswood LNR.
We leave Amberswood in Lower Ince and join the canal towpath at Brittania Bridge for the short stretch back to Trencherfield Mill.

Non-members are very welcome to come along for a ride or two before joining, all we ask is that you fill out one of our membership forms before doing so and bring it along with you as well as your own bike & helmet to use on the ride.

Canal towpath to Crooke, Giant’s Hall Rd, Standish Wood Lane, A49 to Leyland Mill Lane, Hall Lane, Whelley Loop, Aspull Sough, Cale Lane, Hindley Golf course, Borsdane Wood, Danes Avenue, Amberswood, Platt Bridge, Viridor Woods, Three Sisters, Devils Backbone, and back along canal towpath.
28th Jan – Jim T: 21 Miles, 1030ft. Haigh Hall, into Blackrod, Horwich and around the Lower Rivington Reservoir. Down Babylon Lane into Adlington, along The Common and across the River Douglas ford at Little Aberdeen. Red Rock and down to Chorley Rd, into Lurdin Ln, Water Drive. Roundmoor Rd on to the ‘new’ cycle route down to Gidlow Lane. Followed by Prescott St and Miry Lane back to Trencherfield Mill.
