16th July (Extended Club Ride)

Leading: Richard B

Meet at Northwich Memorial Car Park CW9 5QJ at 10am. . What3words – brings.salad.bolts – Park near the green hut at the back of the car park. There is a small charge for the car park – less than £2. There are no toilets at the car park.

We leave the car park on an off road cycleway and then follow the River Weaver upstream to Vale Royal Locks crossing the river and riding past Vale Royal Abbey after passing through the one difficult gate on the ride. We proceed via tracks and lanes to the Whitegate Way. Cycling along the Whitegate Way there will be a briel toilet stop near the old Whitegate Station. We will proceed to join the Oakmere Way down a short flight of steps which I may walk but most of you will ride. We ride about 3 miles along the Oakmere Way before reaching the main entrance to Delamere Forest. The lunch stop will be at Delamere Station House. After lunch we will ride into the forest and go along 3 of the single track trails,Pat’s Run,The Glassworks and Castle Ditch. These are easy one way single track trails but there are ways around all 3 of them. We exit the north side of the forest and cycle via a series of lanes to Pickering’s Lock and a different section of the River Weaver. We cross the Weaver at Dutton Locks and continue to go under the A49 by the Acton Swing Bridge. We leave the Weaver crossing the Trent and Mersey Canal and onto a bridleway which is the only notable climb on the route. We join the Cheshire Cycleway into Little Leigh. We then follow lanes to the Anderton Boat Lift and join tracks around the Northwich Community Woodlands. We finish with a loop around Neumann’s Flash and Ashton’s Flash.

The route is largely offroad. Suitable for Hybrids, Mountain Bikes and E-bikes. Not suitable for a road bike. About 32 miles, with about 1400 feet of climbing. Pre booking is not necessary but it would be very useful if I could give the cafe an idea of numbers. If possible could you indicate if you are coming on the WhatsApp group by Wednesday.

Non members are very welcome to come along for a ride or two before joining, all we ask is that you fill out one of our membership forms before doing so and bring it along with you as well as your own bike & helmet to use on the ride. No need to let us know if you’re coming along, just turn up on the day!

Membership forms are available for you to download from the website (About Us Page)
