27th August

Leading: Phil B

This route is 22 miles with a mix of road and off road and less than 600 feet of ascent. Most of the ascent is at the start of the ride. We will join the canal towpath and climb up to Cale Lane in New Spring where we follow a trail through to Hall Lane. We cycle along the lane to join Bolton Road and soon enter Mill Lane which leads us to Borsdane Wood. We follow the trail through the wood into Hindley where we join another trail that emerges in Hart Common. We return to road passing through Daisy Hill on our route to Howe Bridge Crematorium. We join a track into Westleigh and cross estates to Fir Tree Flash. We then skirt along the edge of the flash and continue to Bickershaw. More trails take us across towards Hindley Prison then down to join Bickershaw Lane. We leave the lane and bypass Kingsdown Flash then continue across Abram to join the canal towpath at Dover Lock. We cycle back into Wigan along the towpath before joining Pool Street to take us back to our start point. This route is unsuitable for a road bike.

Everyone is welcome to join us at the Red Pepper café for a drink and a chat after the ride.

Non members are very welcome to come along for a ride or two before joining, all we ask is that you fill out one of our membership forms before doing so and bring it along with you as well as your own bike & helmet to use on the ride.
