26th March
Leading: Phil B
The leader will be on a push bike for this ride. It’s around 19 miles, mainly off-road with less than 400 feet of ascent. We will head up the canal towpath to join the Whelley Loop Line that will take us down into Amberswood Nature Reserve. We’ll circle around the trails and boardwalks before crossing into Low Hall Nature Reserve. After crossing Low Hall we follow tracks through to Bickershaw and into the council estate. We then cross Bickershaw Lane and join trails inside Bickershaw Country Park. We cycle around Fir Tree Flash and through to Plank Lane. A section of road takes us through to Crankwood where we follow a trail into Abram. We rejoin the canal towpath for a couple of miles until we reach Westwood Way. We follow the cycleway here and cross Poolstock Lane before entering the Worsley Mesnes estate. We enter Parsons Meadow fields and follow the trails through to the Southgate cycleway. We return to our start point via Fourteen Meadows Road.
This ride will not be suitable for a road bike.
Everyone is welcome to join us at the Red Pepper café for a drink and a chat after the ride.
Non members are very welcome to come along for a ride or two before joining, all we ask is that you fill out one of our membership forms before doing so and bring it along with you as well as your own bike & helmet to use on the ride.
