18th July

Phil B will be leading:

This week’s Thursday route is just under 20 miles with a little over 800 feet of ascent.  The majority is on road but it also includes some cycling on cycleways and trails.  We follow the Wallgate cycleway to the Saddle Junction then head out past the Brick Stadium and through Martland Mill industrial estate to Kitt Green.  We continue on road through Orrell Post and on to Billinge where we join a trail down to Carr Mill Dam.  We circle the dam off road then join the Garswood Old Road trail through the woods and up into Garswood.  After a short road section we return off road and circle a few more off road trails around Garswood.  When we leave the trails we join Newton Road and continue on road to Windy Arbour then down through Highfield and into Newtown.  We enter Alexandra Park and follow a pathway under the railway into Goose Green. A short road ride takes us into the Worsley Mesnes estate where we enter the trail across Parsons Meadow.  We emerge in Poolstock for the short road ride to the Red Pepper café.  Everyone is welcome to join us for our usual drink, snack and chat at the cafe. Although there’s plenty of road riding this route is not suitable for a road bike.

Starting at 9:30am from Trencherfield Mill, Heritage Way, Woods Street, Wigan WN3 4AT

Non members are very welcome to come along for a ride or two before joining, all we ask is that you fill out one of our membership forms before doing so and bring it along with you as well as your own bike & helmet to use on the ride. No need to let us know if you’re coming along, just turn up on the day!

Membership forms are available for you to download from the website (About Us Page)

    Hi
I have got a electric bike and is that ok.
    Regards Terry.

    • Paul says:

Hi Terry electric bike should be fine, but just bear in mind that a lot of the off-road trails we use have access barriers (kissing gate type affair)on them. Might be a little more awkward to negotiate with a heavier bike. Only one way to find out though!

    • Geoffrey Smith says:

I regularly use an electric bike on rides without problem
