Ride Leader – Denis M

Start at Trencherfield  then we make our way up to Orrell then into Tontine. Into up Holland up Alma hill then we make our way to Becon park, this is were we have off road riding for about two miles then once we get back to road riding we head for Roby Mill Into Lafford lane back to up Holland heading towards Pimbo then  into Billinge & back home.

This is mostly a road ride apart from the two miles off road in the Becon Park Total mileage 22 miles the Accent is 355 feet suitable for road & Hybrid bikes

Everyone is welcome to join us as usual at the Red Pepper café for a drink, snack and chat after the ride.

Starting at 9:30am from Trencherfield Mill, Heritage Way, Woods Street, Wigan WN3 4AT

Non-members are very welcome to come along for a ride or two before joining, all we ask is that you fill out one of our membership forms before doing so and bring it along with you as well as your own bike & helmet to use on the ride.

No need to let us know if you’re coming along, just turn up on the day!

3rd Dec – Peter H: 21 miles 450 ft. Canal to Plank Lane, past Leigh College, Pennington Park, guided bus way via Bonnywell road, Lilford Park wood, Jubilee Park, Westleigh Lane, Fir Tree Flash, Bickershaw Lane, Amberswood, back to start point.

26th Nov – Tony G: 21miles, 600 feet. Whelley Loop Line, canal, Top Lock, Hindley Golf course, Aspull, Borsdane Wood, Alder Lane, Hindley Green, Bickershaw, “Road to Nowhere”, Fir Tree Flash, Plank Lane, Crankwood, Dover Lock, back to Wigan down the canal.

19th Nov Allan F: 20 mile. Wallgate, Brick Stadium, Kit Green, Gathurst Road, Shevington, Appley Bridge, Lees Lane, Parbold, The Common, Bentley Lane, Andertons Mill, Cardiac Hill, Tunley Lane, Pepper Lane, Mineral Line, Standish Wood Lane, Wigan Lane and back to Trencherfield.

12th Nov Phil B: 19 mile. Parsons Meadow. Westwood Way, canal towpath to Moss Bridge, through the woods at Pearson’s Flash, Cemetery Road, Amberswood & Boardwalks, Low Hall, Hindley, Pig sty track, Bickershaw, Fir Tree Flash, Plank Lane, Crankwood Road, Morris Dancers, Kingsdown Flash, Lee Lane, Platt Bridge and Canal Towpath back to Wigan. 

5th Nov Tony G.: 22 miles and 1000ft. Mesnes Park, Swinley, Haigh Woodland Park, Balcarres, Little Scotland, Blundell’s lane to the canal, Adlington, Duxbury, Yarrow Valley Country Park, Coppull Moor Lane and A49 back to Wigan.

29th Oct Pete H: 22 mile and 500ft. Towpath to Bamfurlong, Viridor, Riding Lane, Golborne, Lowton Penny Flash, Fir Tree Flash, West Leigh, Hindley, Amberswood & back to Trencherfield.

22nd Oct – Denis M: Road ride of 22 miles. From Trencherfield up to Charnock Richard, Eccleston, Euxton, Preston Road back to Trencherfield

8th Oct – John M: 25 miles, 1100 feet of ascent. Wallgate cycle path, The Brick stadium, Appley Bridge, Lees Lane, Dalton, Parbold village, High Moor, Eccleston, Heskin, Wrightington, Pepper Lane, Shevington, Standish Lower Ground, Woodhouse, Miry Lane, Trencherfield.

1st Oct – Allan F : 23 miles and 1000ft ,DW Stadium, Martland Mill, Kitt Green, Orrell, Upholland, Pimbo, Crawford Village, Rainford Linear Park, Windle, Crank Road, Billinge, Windy Arbour, Saddle Junction and back to base.

24th Sept – Phil B : 23 mile and 900ft. Miry Lane, Cherry Gardens, Haigh Hall. Balcarres Arms, Blackrod, Little Scotland, Arley Lane, Red Rock, Chorley Road, Jolly Tar Lane, Preston Road, Pepper Lane, Shevington, Gathurst and canal towpath back to Wigan. 

17th Sep – Allan F: 20 Miles. Canal to Crook, Elnup Wood, Cricket club along Green Lane, Mineral line to Almond Brook, Tunley Lane, Toogood Lane, down Cardiac hill, Bentley Lane, Anderson’s Mill, Parbold, Lees Lane, Appley Bridge, Shevington, Gathurst to Kit Green, Heinz factory back to Trencherfield via Marsh Green and the Saddle. 

3rd Sept – Denis M: 22 mile and 1100ft. Orrell, Tontine, Up Holland, Roby Mill, Long Heys lane, Ashurst Beacon, Up Holland, Pimbo, Billinge and back to the Red Pepper.

27th August – Phil B: 21 mile and 700ft. Parsons Meadow, Hawkley Woods, Amberswood, Kirklees Nature Reserve, Haigh Hall and Fosters Fields.

20th August – Pete H: 22 mile and 500ft. Canal to Bamfurlong, along the side of the railway into Viridor, Haydock industrial estate via Low Bank Rd, across the East Lancs, Vista Rd, Earlestown, Newton le Willows, Rob Lane, back across the East Lancs, Golborne & back to Trencherfield.

13th August – Phil B: 24 mile and 1000ft. Goose Green, Winstanley, Windy Arbour, Billinge, Crank, Windle Island, Digmoor, Holland Moor, Upholland, Orrell, Kitt Green, Marsh Green and back to Trencherfield via Wallgate.

6th August – Phil B: 24 miles 900 feet. Wallgate, Martland Mill industrial estate, Spring Road, Kitt Green, Gathurst Hill, Appley Bridge, Lees Lane, Newburgh, Parbold, Bispham Green, Mawdesley, Andertons Mill, Cardiac Hill, Tunley Lane, Pepper Lane, Shevington, Standish Lower Ground, Woodhouse Lane, Miry Lane, back to our start point. 

30th July – Phil B: Extended ride to Southport

23rd July – Peter H: 21 miles with a gain of 438 Ft. Whelly loop line, Amberswood LNR, Liverpool Rd, Park Rd, Leyland Park, Bickershaw Ln, Fir Tree Flash, Plank Ln, Pennington Flash, Newton Rd, Lowton, Golborne, canal back to Trenchfield.

16th July – Denis M: Road ride of 22 miles, Gathurst, Back lane to Mossy Lea Road ,Wood Lane, Charnock Richard, Preston Road, Church Road, Hinds head pub, back to Trencherfield.

9th July – Tony G: 20 miles 700ft. Mesnes Park, Haigh Country Park to Aspull, past the Rugby Club and onto Hall Lane, Dicconson Lane, Jacks Lane/Dodd Lane to Hindley and Hindley Green, Bickershaw and around Fir Tree Flash to Plank Lane swing bridge, Canal back to Trencherfield.”

2nd July – Phil B: 21 mile and 1000ft. Alexandra Park. Hall Lane, Orrell Water Park, Crank Road, Billinge Lump, Kings Moss, Pimbo, Hall Green, Roby Mill, Lafford Lane, Whitley, Upholland, Orrell Post, Pemberton, Highfield, & Saddle Junction back to base.

25th June – Phil B: 20 miles 800 feet of ascent. The Brick Stadium, Martland Mill, canal towpath at Crooke, Beech Hill, Standish Wood Lane, Chorley Road, climbing Red Rock Lane to join Arley Lane, Arley golf course, Little Scotland, Haigh Hall Country Park, Douglas Valley, Whelley Loop line, Kirkless Nature Reserve, Amberswood, Westwood council estate, Westwood Way cycleway then back to the start.

18th June Tony G: 23 mile. Whelley Loop, Top Lock, Aspull, Borsdane Wood, Hindley Green, Howe Bridge, Lilford Park. Guided busway, Pennington Flash, Plank Lane & canal back to Trencherfield.

11th June Pete H: 22 mile and 570 ft. Canal to Bamfurlong, side of the railway into Viridor, Riding Lane, Golborne, across the race course, Newton, Sankey Valley, Carr Mill, Garswood, Downall Green, Landgate Lane, Devils back bone and canal back to Trencherfield.

28th May Allan F: 20 mile and 600ft. Towpath to Hawkley Woods, Devils backbone, Landgate Lane, North Ashton, tracks to Carr Mill, Sankey Valley, Newton, crossing the East Lancs and Racecourse, Viridor woods, Lily Lane and back via canal towpath.

21st May – Peter H: Extended Ride. 42 miles, 737ft. Trenchfield, Plank Lane on the canal, Slag Lane, Byrom Lane, Sandy Lane, Newton Rd, Lane Head, Croft, Birchwood, Risley Moss, Gorse Covert, Dam Lane, Glazebrook, Cadishead, lunch stop at Irlam Station, Liverpool Rd, Port Salford GreenWay, Monton, Roe Green Loop Line, guided bus way, Leigh Pennington Flash, canal back to Wigan.

The ride is suitable for any bike.
