The ride is a mix of off-road and road surfaces taking in Martland Mill, Crooke village, Giants Hall, Boars Head, Haigh, Aspull, Borsdane Wood, Amberswood, Fir Tree Flash, Plank Lane and finally along the canal back to Trencherfield. The ride is about 24 miles long with about 900 feet of climbing and is suitable for a hybrid or mountain bike.
Non members are very welcome to come along for a ride or two before joining, all we ask is that you fill out one of our membership forms before doing so and bring it along with you as well as your own bike & helmet to use on the ride. No need to let us know if you’re coming along, just turn up on the day!

Whelley Loop Line, Hall Lane, Balcarres via Haigh Hall, Toddington Lane, Little Scotland, Blundell’s Lane, crossing the River Douglas ford, Adlington, Rawlinson Lane, Duxbury golf course, A6, Burgh Hall Road and down to Yarrow Valley, Coppull and the A49 to Pepper Lane, Standish Mineral Line, Beech Hill, Gidlow Lane, Prescott Street and Miry Lane.

Mesnes, Alexandra Park, Leopold Street, Hall Lane, Orrell Water Park, Billinge, Carr Mill Dam, Sankey Valley Trail, Wargrave, Newton-le-Willows, across Haydock Park Racecourse, Edge Green Lane, Riding Lane, Viridor Woods, Bamfurlong and canal towpath back to Wigan.
29th May – Tony G: 18 mile, 600ft. Whelley Loop Line, Belle Green Lane to Hemfield Rd, Hindley Station, Borsdane Wood, Aspull Rugby Club, Little Scotland, Blundells Lane, Red Rock, Lurdin Lane, Beech Hill, Martland Mill, back to Trencherfield via Parson’s Meadow.
22nd May – Jim T: 20 mile and 1100ft Cherry Gardens Leyland Mill Lane and Sennicar Lane, Balcarres, Little Scotland, Blundell Lane, Arley Lane, Red Rock, Lurdin Lane and Water Drive, Gidlow / Standish cycleway. Standish Wood Lane, Elnup Woods, Crooke Pads, Giants Hall, re-join Standish Wood Lane, Gidlow Lane, Spencer Road, Haigh Country Park, Aspull Sough and canal towpath back to Trencherfield.
15th May – Paul B: 30 mile and 1100ft Amberswood, Low Hall, Fir Tree Flash, Pennington Flash, Byrom Woods, Golborne, Croft, Winwick, Newton-le-Willows, Golborne, Viridor, Three Sisters, Backbone, Hawkley and back to Trencherfield.
8th May – Phil B: 23 mile and 1000 ft. Westwood Way, Winstanley, Windy Arbour, Billinge Hill, Kings Moss, Rainford, Crawford, Pimbo, Upholland, Roby Mill, Lafford Lane, Upholland, Kitt Green, Martland Mill, Brick Stadium and Wallgate cycleway back to Trencherfield.

Canal towpath to Bamfurlong, alongside the railway into Viridor, Edge Green Road, across Haydock Park racecourse Newton-le-Willows, Wargrave, Sankey Valley Trail, Carr Mill Dam, tracks into Billinge, Roby Well Way, Windy Arbour, Saddle, Parsons Meadow and back base.

Canal towpath to New Springs, Withington Lane, Hall Lane, Bolton Road, Mill Lane, Borsdane Wood, Jacks Lane, Wearish Lane, Daisy Hill, Hindley Green, Westleigh, Fir Tree Flash, Bickershaw Colliery site, Hindley, Park Road, Amberswood, Westwood Council estate, Westwood Way cycleway and canal towpath back to Trencherfield.
17th Apr – Phil B: 26 mile and 1000 ft. Wallgate cycleway to the Saddle Junction, Stadium Way, Martland Mill, Kitt Green, Gathurst, Shevington, Miles Lane, Appley Bridge, Lees Lane, Newburgh, Bispham Green, Mawdesley, Cardiac Hill, Tunley Lane, Pepper Lane, Mineral Line, New Cycleway to Gidlow Lane and back to Trencherfield.
10th Apr – Phil B: 18 mile and 900ft. Westwood Way, Little Lane, Leopold Street, Hall Lane, Orrell Water Park, Tracks Lane, Tontine, Lafford Lane, Whitley Road, Bank Brow, Appley Bridge, Elnup Wood, Standish Lower Ground, Beech Hill, Springfield, Miry Lane and back to Trencherfield.
3rd Apr – Phil B: 22 mile and 600 ft. Parsons Meadow, Worsley Mesnes, Westwood Way, Hawkley Woods, Devil’s Backbone, North Ashton, Garswood, The Turpin, Arch Lane, Ashton, Bryn, Three Sisters, Viridor, alongside the railway to Bamfurlong, Platt Bridge, Amberswood inc the boardwalks, Lower Ince and back to Trencherfield.
27th Mar – Len W: 21 mile 1400ft. Crooke, Shevington, Appley Bridge, Dangerous Corner, Stoney Lane, Parbold, Newburgh, Cobbs Lane, Ashurst Beacon, Orrell, Hall Lane, Leopold St, Little Lane, Parsons Meadow & back to base.

Parsons Meadow, Worsley Mesnes estate, Westwood Cycleway, canal towpath to Moss Bridge, Cemetery Road, Amberswood, Kirklees, Route 55 to Hall Lane, Haigh Hall, Balcarres, Little Scotland, Blundell Lane into Arley, golf course, Red Rock, Lurdin Lane, mineral line down into Beech Hill, Gidlow Lane& Miry Lane back to our start point.
13th Feb – Phil B: 20 mile. Amberswood, Low Hall, Bickershaw, Fir Tree Flash, Plank Lane, Byrom Wood, Golborne, Ashton Heath, Skitters Wood, North, Brocstedes, Landgate Lane, Hawkley Woods and canal towpath back to Wigan.
