This is a 36 miles road ride through the West Lancashire countryside. We will head out through Pimbo and Crawford to Simonswood and on to Aughton before reaching the Hayloft café at Lydiate for our lunch stop at the halfway point of the ride.
The café offers hot and cold food and drinks with alfresco dining on benches outside for those who prefer the outdoors.
After lunch we move on to Halsall and Heaton’s Bridge before passing close to Martin Mere wildlife reserve and entering Burscough. We continue on to Newburgh then on to Dalton and back to our start point.
A large part of this ride is on relatively flat, quiet country lanes. There are two hilly sections with Tower Hill at the start of the ride and a fairly challenging climb up to Ashurst Beacon towards the end.
The ride is suitable for any bicycle. Most of the lanes are in decent condition but there are places where the road surfaces have deteriorated due to weather and farming activity.
