Plank lane Swing-Bridge, Leigh

What a difference the weather makes, a beautiful sunny morning definitely made the early start more palatable this week. Five participants all keen and eager, where to go was the question? Decided to make the most of the dry conditions and explore the Bridgewater Canal towpath, can be a bit grim when the grounds wet. Off we set heading towards Leigh and onwards through Astley Green, (passing by the Boat House) as we made our way to Sale via Worsley, Monton, Patricroft and Stretford passing behind the Trafford Centre on route. Finally getting as far as Brooklands Metrolink Station before turning back for the return journey. Even managed to collect a stranger on route, think he was glad of the company. Obligatory coffee stop over and with the sun climbing higher in the sky, Plank Lane seemed a million miles away. On we pressed though following our original wheel tracks as we made our way back in the glorious sunshine. The Boat House was due up in a couple of miles, surely we couldn’t ride past it again, surely not, quick diversion found us in the pub enjoying a well earned pint, just reward for the days exertions. Usual route from here along the canal back to Plank Lane, almost 35 miles cycled, well and truly exhausted but extremely happy!

Why not join us next time out, you don’t know what you’re missing.

Many thanks to Harold for leading and to John, Caroline Ray and Joyce, not forgetting the stranger for taking part, makes it more enjoyable when a few make the effort.

Thought that Brooklands Station was a strange destination, little bird has since told me Sale Water Park was the intended goal, but someone got lost. Didn’t even know you were on the ride Denis!
